Daring to Dream Again - Preview Week

At Park UB, we're getting ready to go on an adventure. A 50 day spiritual adventure is a time for intensive study and spiritual growth. This series is all about overcoming barriers that hold you back.

To start, we ask two questions:
1. If you had no fear of failure, what would you attempt for God?
2. What is it you would like to lay at the Master's feet when your life is over?

Don't be confused - it's not about you and the size of what you attempt. But what you choose to do with the opportunities God gives you makes a difference. Are you living with purpose and prayer, or floating in the wind? For many people, we let different barriers hold us back from following after God in the way He desires. Will you let Him help you discover those barriers over the next 50 days and experience life with freedom?

As we learn together in this preview message, be forewarned: you should expect a dip before an advance. Change can be difficult and many quit too soon. May you draw strength from your Savior as you let Him lead you through the changes He desires for you to live in freedom from the barriers that have been holding you back. It's time to dream again.

Msg: Measuring Up - Week 5

In the final week of this series, we look at the difference between being Lone Rangers or team players. Some think that faith is a personal issue, but real Christianity is a team sport. God has created us to be in community with other believers, and to be on His team. Are trying to get through life on your own? Today, we look at a man who courageously stood before those opposed to him and those who were riding the fence in their faith, and God showed up in a big way.

Msg: Measuring Up - Week 4

In week four, we return to the story of David. In nature, we learn of the instincts to fight or flee. The situation determines the appropriate response. In today's story of David, his response defined for a nation what the appropriate response is before God. The same is true for men today, there are times when we must stand up and fight for out families. At the end of the message, we will look at the most courageous act men can do.

Msg: Measuring Up - Week 3

Week three in our series takes a look at the difference between wimps and warriors. Our story is centered on Gideon, a man who God called a "Mighty Warrior" even though he was hiding in fear at the time. The difference? God sees what we can't. And when God goes with us to strengthen us, anything He calls us to do is possible.

Msg: Measuring Up - Week 2

In week two, former Bishop Ron Ramsey was our guest to speak on being courageous. The message is on the difference between being complacent or being courageous as a Christian. The message follows the story of Abraham being called by God to go to a place he did not know, leaving everything familiar behind. What would you do? Be encouraged as the same God who provided in Abraham's life is ready to lead you today.

Msg: Measuring Up - Week 1

Today we celebrate Father's Day with the kickoff of a new series at Park. As men, we begin at an early age trying to measure up to others. We know who the tallest is in our class, the fastest, the smartest, who has the prettiest girlfriend... But instead of measuring our lives against others, there are standards that God has set that He wants us to compare out lives to.

Throughout the series, we are going to be looking at examples throughout the Bible of men who took courageous steps to live for God. in week one, we compare the life of Saul, Israel's first king, to that of David. Be encouraged that God enables us to live with courage for Him when we put our trust in Him instead of our abilities.

MSG: It's Good 2B Mom - Week 5

In the final week of this series, we look at the mom with possibly the most demanding job ever, Mary the mother of Jesus. So what does the Bible teach us about their relationship? As parents we may not always understand and we may not always get it right. That's why God gives us grace. Be encouraged.

MSG: It's Good 2B Mom - Week 4

In week 4, we look at a mom who has broken one of the most important rules of parenting: don't play favorites. How will this affect her children? It  not only shapes how they treat each other, but their relationship with God. So what's the good news? Even if you have grown up learning some not so good 2B's from your mom, we can break the chain and begin fresh in Jesus.

MSG: It's Good 2B Mom - Week 3

In week three, we look at a different kind of mother: a mother-in-law. Not too many of those tattoos out there. But if Naomi was your mother-in-law, you might think twice about it. She's the opposite of Jezebel that we studied last week. What was it about her that made her daughter-in-law give up everything to follow her when her husband died? Today we look at how God used the lives of these two widows in His grand story. And in her story, we see again that God gives us hope for life today.

MSG: It's Good 2B Mom - Week 2

In week two of our series, we look at the person some have called the baddest of the bad in the Bible - Jezebel. Like the character played by Bette Davis in the 1938 film, she was known for doing evil in the eyes of the Lord. How bad was she? You'll see in today's message. But even "bad" people can teach us good things. We'll see if her children learned anything how to believe and belong from her, or if they followed in her footsteps.

MSG: It's Good 2B Mom - Week 1

We hope everyone enjoyed a fantastic Mother's Day. At Park, we started a new series about the things we learn from moms, both from the good and not so good. The 2B's we learn about from our moms are to "believe" and "belong" and these impact how we behave. There is a reason why the mom tattoo is the most popular of all time.

In week one, we look at the story of Elkanah and his two wives, Pennina and Hannah. Clearly, it's an old story that comes from the time before men learned that having more than one wife is a bad idea. As we look at Hannah's story we will learn why it's vital to make prayer a priority, make worship a habit, and make sacrifice an expectation in our lives.

Msg: Obsession: Worship is for more than...a religion

In the final message in this series, we look at a stumbling block for many in living with an obsession to worship Jesus. Thinking of worship as just a religious activity falls way short of what God intended. As we'll study today, religious activities can be good, but "right activities + wrong motives = epic fail!"

Msg: Obsession: Worship is for more than...a part of life

In part four of our series, we continue on last week's theme that worship is meant for more than a little time, in a certain place, only once a week. Today we look how "part" is never enough and why it is so important to live an everyday life of worship.

Msg: Obsession: Worship is for more than...a feeling

During the main service at Park on Easter, we started a new series that begins as a followup to a story that was briefly mentioned in Mark's Gospel in the early service. We look at what happens as two men were leaving Jerusalem to return home to Emaus on the Sunday morning after Jesus was crucified. As they were walking, they had a very unexpected guest join them and begin to ask questions. As the walk continued and He spoke to them, something changed in them, and they later commented on the burning in their heart they experienced in His presence.
For the next 5 weeks, we will look at what we have made worship into, and what it is truly meant to be. Today we will begin our journey into what it means for worship to be more than a feeling. It's great to have an emotional experience when we worship God, but worship was made for so much more.

Are you the kind of person that has to keep a to-do list? Ever seem like there are too many distractions to getting what you want done in life? In this follow up series to what we started in the fall, we see Jesus during the last week of His life before going to the cross.
Despite all of what we would call interruptions, Jesus was able to achieve His purpose. Today, we start the series with His Triumphal entry into Jerusalem.  After the disciples learn a lesson on the relationship between faith, forgiveness and fig trees, we ask,
"Is there fruit in your life?"

Msg: Can U Hear Me Now? - Part 2

So does God still speak to people today?

Last week in part one of our series, we looked at why so many people have a hard time hearing from God and have given up on hearing from Him. Today, we learn from examples of people from the Bible that heard from God and what that looks like today. We will look at the practical steps that are needed to be ready to hear from God and what we must do when He speaks.

Msg: Can U Hear Me Now? - Part 1

So does God still speak to people today?

In part one of our series, we dive into that question and why so many people can’t hear from Him. The problems for most come from bad assumptions we have made about a relationship with God. So today, we address those bad assumptions and the three reasons we really don’t ask God to speak to us.
